Advance Care Planning 101 – 28 January 2026

A four-hour workshop for families and people living with MND
Inspired by the Waiting Room Revolution

Advance Care Planning (ACP) is about understanding what matters most and making choices that honour dignity, comfort, and personal values. For many families, the hardest part is not the medical information — it is knowing where to begin, how to talk about the future, and how to make decisions in a way that brings clarity instead of fear.

This workshop gently guides families and people living with MND through four practical sessions that build confidence, strengthen communication, and help you create a plan that truly reflects your unique needs and preferences.

What we will explore together

Session 1: In the Dark to In the Know (8:00–9:00)

We start with understanding why serious illness can feel confusing or overwhelming. This session helps you move from uncertainty to clarity — learning what questions to ask, how to access reliable information, and how to understand the “bigger picture” of the journey ahead.

Session 2: Walk Two Roads (9:00–10:00)

Every family walks two roads at the same time:

  • the medical journey
  • the emotional journey

This hour helps you understand both. You’ll learn how to communicate openly, hold space for difficult emotions, and stay connected to what really matters — even when the road feels messy or uncertain.

Session 3: Know Your Style (10:00–11:00)

People approach planning and decision-making in different ways. Some prefer structure, others intuition; some want detailed information, others want broad guidance. This session helps you understand your own style — and your family’s style — so that planning feels natural, not forced.

We explore communication preferences, coping patterns, and how to make decisions in a way that feels aligned with your personality and values.

Session 4: Customise Your Order (11:00–12:00)

Advance Care Planning is never “one size fits all.” This final hour helps you shape a plan that reflects your life, your culture, your values, your hopes, and your boundaries.

You will learn how to:

  • create a personalised care plan
  • communicate your wishes with family and your care team
  • adapt your plan as things change
  • focus on quality of life and what brings meaning

This is where everything comes together — a plan designed by you, for you.

Who this workshop is for

This session is specifically designed for families, caregivers, and people living with MND.
No medical knowledge is required.
Just a willingness to learn, reflect, and feel more supported.

Our intention

To create a safe, warm environment where families can feel seen, heard, informed, and empowered.
Where questions are welcome.
Where planning becomes a pathway to comfort — not fear.
And where everyone leaves feeling more in control of their story.
